"Scaling up" effective education innovations

The role of the SISEP Center is to build the capacity of state education systems to implement and “scale up” effective education innovations statewide, so that every student can benefit from the intended outcomes.

For educators, the math is simple:

Effective
Intervention
(the "What")

X

Effective
Implementation
(the "How")

=

Positive
Outcomes for
Students

The SISEP website explains:

  • Why to focus on implementation when scaling programs in education
  • What are the characteristics of effective practices to scale throughout classrooms
  • Who is needed to scale up effective practices
  • How to successfully implement and scale programs so that every student can benefit

Issues Facing Education

  • How do we know if we have the capacity to implement a new program well?
  • There’s often funding for the next “WHAT” (e.g. curricula, materials, interventions), but how can we improve the understanding of the “HOW” and the need to fund implementation supports?
